Each year, around summertime, it’s graduation time for young ‘media’ artists from the Dutch art Academys. Since 1995 Media Art offers these artistic entrepreneurs in audiovisual and new techniques the opportunity to present and exhibit their work and explore their future work field.
Until 2007 this platform for Young Talent was an integrated part of the Media Art Festival. This year, for the first time, recently graduated artists will be represented at their own independent festival: Media Art Festival for Young Talent.

Official opening

Wed 3 september / 17.30hr / festival hq (Grote Kerkstraat 29, Leeuwarden)

This year’s festival will be officially opened by Siem Akkerman, head of Friesland’s provincial department for Culture, Literature and Education, on September the third at 17.30 hours. For ten days, from September 4 -14, you can enjoy media art exhibitions, pitches an more at the festival location in the former Historical Centre Leeuwarden at the Grote Kerkstraat 29, Leeuwarden.

As in previous years you can enjoy the festivities on opening night, the performances and exhibitions, discover new talent during the presentation show case ‘Pitch’ or check out the information centre ‘Fayre’. But the 2008 festival also brings two completely new events. This year we’re extremely proud to present the Young Talent Award that is linked to the Artist in Residencies and masterclasses. And secondly, as part of the exhibition the ‘Focus on Master of Art students’ and the nominations for the René Coelho Award.

The exhibition consists of 33 art works, from film and video to interactive installations and sculptures, made by 24 young artists. New in this years’ exposition is the focus on a post-graduate Master of Arts programme and a special highlight on three of the Masters taught at the Hogeschool Utrecht.
