And the award goes to…
This year there’ll be two awards: the new Young Talent Award and the René Coelho Award given by the Dutch Institute fro Media Art Amsterdam.
The Young Talent Award

The Young Talent Award is a new award brought to life by Media Art Friesland. The award is meant for recent graduated artists who create audiovisual and new media art installations.
Five participants of the Media Art Festival for Young Talent will be the lucky award winners. These promising media artists win a three-day international master class this fall and an Artist in Residence position during the first week of the 2008 festival resulting in an exhibition in the last weekend from September 12-14.
Out of 250 students, graduated in 2008 with audiovisuele or media art, of the twelve academies in the Netherlands, 24 are selected for the Media Art Festival for Young Talent.
These artists wrote a proposal to create new work.

The René Coelho Award

This prestigious media art award is named after René Coelho, founder and former director of the Dutch institute on media art, NIMk. The Dutch art academies have all nominated three candidates. The winner of the de René Coelho Award 2008 will take home an amount of €1250,- in prize money and another €3500,- on production facilities to start a new project. The winner will be given six months to finish this new art project which will be exhibited together with the award winning graduating work at the NIMk building in Amsterdam.
