Mission StatementMedia Art Friesland is a foundation with an ideal basis. It offers a platform for development, presentation and interaction of media art. Organising, accessibility and presentation of media art for a broad public is the starting point. HistoryThe goal of the foundation is the continuation of visual artist and founder Wim Bors who started the initiative in 1994. The organisation of a festival in Friesland with an national and international overview of media art. Wim Bors organised the first festival in 1995 in collaboration with the Theatre Romein in Leeuwarden and the World Wide Video Festival in Amsterdam. The festival showed retrospective programmes and documentaries and national media art. The second festival in 1996 was in collaboration with Theater Romein, Film house and Centre for Film in Leeuwarden. The festival showed an overview of disciplines within contemporary media art. For the first time the Media Art Prize was given and artists were invited to develop work. In 1998/1999 the third festival took place. The festival showed an overview of contemporary media art. and installations of Dutch Academies of Art & Design. The first Experience, a multimedia event, was initiated. The foundation Media Art Friesland was founded in 2000. The foundation’s line of policy was supported with the structural four year funding by the city of Leeuwarden and the province of Friesland. Since then the foundation presents itself as a platform for young talent and renowned artists; a place where artists, students and the public can meet. And this year the foundation is again supported with the structural four year funding by the city of Leeuwarden and the province of Friesland. Media Art Friesland has set it’s goal to become the media art centre of Friesland. Beside the festival, the foundation organises projects throughout the year. Because of all the ideas, plans of what the foundation wants to happen for the coming years (2005 -2008), the foundation is a continuous work in progress. The cultural and interdisciplinary search process lies at the basis and the goals are set to the hybride character of the media culture Organised festivals:
