Stout & NieuwMedia Art Friesland Started the year 2007 with an event that instantly showed the strength of the organisation: a mixture of different disciplines, people and work from Friesland, the Netherlands and internationally all working together.

To start the new year in style, exhibitions, performances, concerts and DJ/VJ sets were all combined. The latest generation of talented youngsters, with a refreshing view towards image and sound, were invited for a live performance.

Exciting results were showed with VJ and DJ Lourens LeFreak, Mies Elektries, Piet (Zero) and Baan. Live music was provided by PURE! And Niels Luinenberg, DJ Sidra, Carl F Leiber, Maask and Jos Blomsma all new how to work the turntables.

International media art was shown in the lounge with the Media Art Friesland DVD ‘All fourteen different’ wich showed work by Marten Winters, Stuart Pound (UK), Max Hattler (UK), Arno Coenen, Rolando Vargas & Catherine Cely (CO), Pierre-Yves Cruaud (FR), Bas van Koolwijk, Gerbrand Burger, Floris Kaayk, Kohei Yoshino (JP) and José M. Biscaya (PT).

In room X old computer games were played such as PONG on the Philips g7000. Moreover, for the very first time the Visual Sensations award winning mobile installation and VJ set by VJ NEEF (Richard Neef) toured the city of Leeuwarden. Topped off by champagne and sweets this was an event not to be missed.

The fantastic start of 2007 not only meant a new start for the 450 visitors of Naughty & New. Ten percent of the ticket sales was donated to Unicef ‘Chances for Children’.

E-Culture: Podium in Motion

Media integrates more and more: film, theatre, music and images in all its shapes come together. Art and culture are subject to great changes with the arrival of new and interactive media. There is a need for a flexible podium for creative projects where the different types of media and art meet. This is offered in the shape of “E-Culture: Podium in Motion”. This podium can alternate from cinema to exhibition space, from a local radio station to a video wall in the city and from theatre to an internet network.

There will be space for young talented creatives at the broad field of e-culture, visual pop culture, one-minute video, videogame, 3D-simualation and more. The programme committee consists of:

  • Nadine Bors, Media Art Friesland Festival
  • Albert van der Kooij, Academy for Pop Culture, Hanze Hogeschool
  • Dick Laning, Fine Arts and Styling, NHL
  • Timo Mank, Dit Eiland, Ameland
  • Albert Sikkema, Communication and Media Desigh, NHL
  • Ramon van de Werken, Stichting Kalamiteit, Dokkum
